Solar Panel Grants & Incentives in Canada (2026)

Up to CA$10,000 in Ontario & BC

There are currently 4 active solar incentives available in Canada. Ontario & BC: up to CA$10,000 solar + battery; CGHAP for low-income.

Active Incentives

Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP)

ActiveRebate

Value

Up to CA$5,000 for solar + CA$5,000 for battery = CA$10,000 total

Ontario rebates of up to CA$5,000 for solar PV (CA$1,000/kW) plus up to CA$5,000 for battery storage — a combined maximum of CA$10,000. Extended to November 2026.

Eligibility criteria

  • Ontario residential homeowner
  • Solar system must be for load displacement (not net-metered export)
  • Must use a Save on Energy participating retailer
  • Programme extended to November 2026

How to apply

Apply through the Save on Energy portal at saveonenergy.ca. A participating retailer will guide you through the application process.

Things to know

CA$1,000/kW for solar up to CA$5,000 (5 kW max) plus CA$5,000 for battery storage. The load displacement focus means the system is primarily sized to offset your own consumption rather than export. This is currently the most generous single provincial solar incentive in Canada.

Eligibility criteria

  • Low-to-median income household

  • Must be connected to the utility grid with an eligible solar system
  • Alberta allows net billing but not full net metering

Frequently Asked Questions

What solar incentives are available in Canada in 2026?

The Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed, but two major provincial programmes now offer significant support: Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program (up to CA$5,000 solar + CA$5,000 battery = CA$10,000, extended to Nov 2026) and BC Hydro's rebate (CA$5,000 solar + CA$5,000 battery = CA$10,000). Low-income households nationally can access the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program (CGHAP).

Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant still available?

No — the Greener Homes Grant closed to new applications in February 2024 and the loan programme closed in October 2025. The replacement programme is CGHAP (Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program) for low-to-median income households, plus strong provincial programmes in Ontario and BC.
