SEAI Battery Storage Grant
The SEAI battery storage grant of €600 has been discontinued. However, batteries are now VAT-exempt in Ireland, providing a 13.5–23% cost saving.
The €600 SEAI battery grant was discontinued. The VAT exemption on batteries (reducing the rate from 23% to 0% or the reduced rate) partially offsets this loss.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the Irish solar grant in 2026?
The SEAI Solar PV Grant is confirmed at €1,800 maximum for 2026 (unchanged from 2025). Note: this is lower than in previous years when the rate was €900/kWp with higher caps. You must apply before signing with an installer. The battery grant of €600 has been discontinued, but batteries are now VAT-exempt.
How much can I earn from the Irish solar export scheme?
The Micro-generation Support Scheme (MSS/Clean Export Guarantee) pays you for electricity exported to the grid. Best rates as of April 2026: Pinergy 25c/kWh, Electric Ireland 19.5c/kWh, Bord Gáis/Energia 18.5c/kWh. A typical 4 kWp system might export 1,000–1,500 kWh per year, earning €185–€375 annually at the best rate.
Do I need a SEAI-registered installer for the Irish solar grant?
Yes — using an SEAI-registered contractor is mandatory to qualify for the grant. You must also apply before signing any contract with an installer. The SEAI maintains a list of registered contractors at seai.ie. Failure to apply first or use a registered installer means you will not receive the grant.
